The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) has helped many people across our community, but I am increasingly concerned by the number of participants and families in our community who are coming to me for help because they are at their wits’ end.

Under the Morrison Government, families are facing months-long delays in decision-making, having their child’s NDIS budget slashed by tens of thousands of dollars, and waiting months for critical home modifications.

As one local mother, Elizabeth told me: “Every step forward was met with another one backwards. The entire process has been confusing and agonising.”

Amanda, another local mother told me: “It shouldn’t be this hard to get the very reasonable and necessary support for my daughter to enjoy the most basic of rights we all otherwise take for granted – accessing her own home.”

Labor set up the NDIS to give children and adults with disability the opportunity to live the best lives possible. But under the Morrison Government, the NDIS isn’t working as it should and it’s causing great stress and uncertainty.

The Morrison Government is failing to deliver on the promise of the NDIS, and failing too many people in our community who need help.

Labor built the NDIS. A Labor Government will fix it so that it supports people in our community.
