Kate Thwaites is the Federal Member for Jagajaga, the Federal Labor candidate for Jagajaga and the voice in Canberra for our community.
She lives locally with her family and is passionate about supporting people across Jagajaga.
Kate is working to support her community with cost of living pressures, and to build a better future.
She is passionate about strengthening Medicare and ensuring community access to healthcare, including through the Medicare Urgent Care Clinic the Labor Government has opened in Heidelberg.
Kate is continuing her work to push for better outcomes in women’s healthcare, economic security, and opportunity.
Kate believes that older people who have helped build this country deserve to be respected and cared for. She is proud of the work the government has done in fixing aged care.
Kate is committed to ensuring more homes are built and opportunities are expanded so young people aren’t locked out of home ownership.
Kate understands we are facing a climate emergency and that we must continue the work the Government has started to achieve our climate goals and reach net-zero emissions. This includes investing in a job-creating renewable energy future, reducing emissions, and protecting our local environment.
And as a former ABC reporter Kate also understands just how vital it is that we have a strong and properly funded public broadcaster. She will always fight for a strong and independent ABC.
She will always stand up and deliver for her community.
Kate is committed to easing cost-of-living pressures for families. She is proud of the Federal Labor Government’s tax cuts, energy rebates, pay rises for workers in highly feminised industries, cheaper childcare, superannuation on Paid Parental Leave and historic investments into women’s health, these are policies that benefit families, women, and the economy.
She is proud of Labor’s fundamental shift toward policies that support women, backed by a majority female caucus. With Federal Labor in government, Australian women can be confident their voices are being heard.
