Today I welcomed Chris Bowen MP, Labor’s Shadow Minister for Climate Change and Energy, back to Jagajaga to announce that an Albanese Labor Government will deliver a community solar battery in the Bellfield area, to help cut power bills and emissions.

The battery will be able to store energy generated during the day which can then be used at night to help power local households and reduce pressure on the grid.

Our commitment will help local families realise the full potential of solar energy, and support others in the community to do the same.

Thanks to Banyule City Council for showing Chris and I around the new Bellfield Community Hub, which is due for completion later this year. The Hub will be an exciting new gathering place for local residents and groups; with strong environmental and sustainability credentials, it will form part of consultation with community, providers and Council on the location of the community battery.

I also want to acknowledge the hard work of Banyule Clean Energy Group who are passionate advocates for community batteries. I look forward to working with them to see our community continue to embrace renewable energy and its benefits.

I hear loud and clear from our community that you want to see real action on climate change. An Albanese Labor Government will deliver it.
