Labor Member for Jagajaga Kate Thwaites has announced that a re-elected Albanese Labor Government would provide $50,000 to deliver Himilo Community Connect’s Himilo Bridges Project.

This election commitment will fund the Himilo Bridges Project to engage diverse faith and community groups, particularly Muslim and Somali Australian communities across North-Eastern Metropolitan Melbourne.

The activities are designed to strengthen cross-cultural and interfaith understanding, foster community connections, and enhance social cohesion.

Over a 12-month period, the project will deliver four interfaith learning and celebration activities led by young people, along with culturally informed and inclusive sports activities.

These initiatives will provide opportunities for young people and families to share and celebrate their diverse traditions, promoting greater unity and understanding.

The Himilo Bridges Project will be based at Shop 48 The Harmony Centre, The Mall, Heidelberg West; with outreach programs at Bellfield Community Hub in Bellfield, Olympic Leisure Centre in Heidelberg West, and NETS Stadium in Macleod.

The Albanese Labor Government recognises the vital role of grassroots community organisations like Himilo Community Connect in fostering community cohesion and connection.

Consistent with past practice, election commitments will be delivered in line with Commonwealth Grants Rules and Principles.
